This document will walk you thru how to build a WWVB Stratum-1 Time Server on a Raspberry Pi using the Raspberry Pi OS (previously called Raspbian).
What we are tying to accomplish
In a nutshell, we will be receiving time data from the NIST Time Service (WWVB) via a radio antenna, using phase modulated time code and distributing the data via the Network Time Protocol to other computers on our internal network. This configuration will not require internet access for the server to keep accurate time.
This setup will be used as a backup to our established GPS time service running as the primary time source.
This How-To will being using the following software/version
- Chrony - Version 4.0
- es100 WWVB refclock
- Raspberry Pi OS - Release: May 3rd 2023, Debian version: 11 (bullseye)
